Kids finding difficult to pronounce words- Use Phonics

Writer: Aruna SunchuAruna Sunchu

Phonics is a great way to introduce preschoolers to the sounds and patterns of language, and to help them develop the skills they need for reading and writing. Here are some tips for teaching phonics to preschoolers:

  1. Teach letter sounds: Start by teaching preschoolers the sounds that each letter makes. Use visual aids such as pictures or flashcards to reinforce the sound.

  2. Use familiar words: Use familiar words that preschoolers use every day, such as "cat," "dog," or "mom," and emphasize the sound that each letter makes in the word.

  3. Practice blending: Once preschoolers have learned several letter sounds, practice blending them together to form simple words. For example, blend the sounds "c-a-t" to form the word "cat."

  4. Use songs and rhymes: Singing songs and reciting rhymes is a fun way to teach phonics to preschoolers. Choose songs and rhymes that emphasize letter sounds or word families, and encourage preschoolers to sing or recite along.

  5. Use manipulatives: Manipulatives such as letter tiles or magnetic letters can help preschoolers visualize and understand phonics. Ask them to match letters to their corresponding sounds, or to build simple words using the letter tiles.

  6. Read together: Reading together is a great way to reinforce phonics skills and to build a love of reading. Choose books with simple

, repetitive text and familiar words, and encourage preschoolers to sound out the words as you read.

Remember to keep phonics activities short and engaging, and to praise preschoolers for their efforts and progress. With consistent practice and reinforcement, preschoolers can develop strong phonics skills that will set them on the path to becoming confident readers and writers.
